The Tour |
A Brief About Kerala |
|
Duration :
9 Nights / 10 Days
Major Attractions: Kochi (Cochin), Backwater, Thekkady,
Periyar Kovalam. |
|
Kerala is a lush tropical state
on the southwest coast of India. While the slopes of the mountains
are covered with coffee, tea and rubber plantations, much of the
coastal landscape is dominated by tall, elegant coconut palms. In
addition to this there are beautiful palm fringed backwaters,
filled with lotus and lilies. We explore the best of this Malabar
coast in a leisurely manner by staying in lovely resorts in the
most exotic of locations: a former rice barge, a national park, a
lakeside resort, a stunning beach, and a city with a rich history. |

Day 1, KOCHI
(COCHIN)
:Arrive and transfer to your hotel. Kochi (or Cochin) is set on a
cluster of islands and narrow peninsulas and has one of the best
natural harbours in the world. The famed 'Malabar Spices' were
exported from this very port, bringing to Kochi visitors as varied
as the Arabs, the Dutch, the Portuguese and, finally, the British.
All of them have
left their mark on the architecture, making Kochi
one of the most unique and fascinating towns in India.
Day 2,
KOCHI
Morning tour of Fort Cochin and a cruise through the harbour. In
the evening we can watch a performance of Kathakali Dancing.
Days 3, HOUSEBOAT A short transfer
takes us to the starting point of our houseboat cruise through
Kerala's waterways and lagoons. This is the most romantic way of
seeing one of the most beautiful areas of Kerala and we can relax
and watch the world go by, sipping from a tender coconut and
enjoying the sheer peace of the palm fringed waterways. We spend
the night on board the houseboat.
Day 4, THEKKADY : Thekkady is the best
place to stay for a visit to Periyar Wildlife Reserve. The journey
there affords beautiful views of the highest mountain range in
India south of the Himalayas, coffee
plantations spread across the
foothills of the Western Ghats, tea grows at higher altitudes and
there are acres of rubber plantations.
Day 5, THEKKADY :The Periyar Wildlife
Reserve is one of the largest in India. There are plenty of
elephants, sambhar, wild pig, flying squirrel and over 260 species
of bird life. Periyar is centred around a vast artificial lake and
we explore by boat, which allows us to watch animals drinking at
the lakeside.
Day 6, KERALA BACKWATERS Our next
stop is a picturesque small village where we stay in a beautiful
resort, adjacent to the backwaters. |
|
Day 7, KERALA BACKWATERS We have
time to explore the surrounding areas and perhaps enjoy the
ancient rites of an Ayurvedic massage and oil bath at the resort's
Ayurvedic centre.

Day 8, KOVALAM: Kovalam is Kerala's
most famous beach resort. Even though popular, the beaches are
quiet by European standards and it is still possible to watch the
fishermen bringing in the night's catch if you visit the beach in
the early mornings. The bare rocks and the sandy beaches create
some stunning settings at sunrise and sunsets.
Day 9, KOVALAM: Kovalam is an
excellent place to soak up the sun and enjoy the sea. Those more
interested in culture might want to take a day excursion to the
Padmanabhaupuram Palace and Kanyakumari which is highly
recommended.
Day 10, KOVALAM: Transfer to airport
for your onward flight.
